Bella Frances is a deep feeler, and because of this she is a powerful healer; a trait she is incredibly grateful for, having been in and out of hospitals her whole life with severe anaphylactic reactions. Between that and the ending of a tumultuous and fraught close family relationship as she turned eighteen, Bella became a songwriter and a singer from an early age to make sense of her emotional world – and, as it turns out, to make something beautiful from the pain she was experiencing. 

 

With her history of leading musicals Bella has the Broadway/Hollywood habit of living every song she sings, making her performances a true experience to witness. She released her debut single, ‘Magic’ in July 2023 and since then has released five more singles, two self-directed music videos, and her first EP ‘She’ll Cross Oceans’ in collaboration with Juno-winning and nominated producers including Rob Szabo. Some of Bella’s highlight performances include Springtide Music Festival (Billianne, Aysanabee), Mariposa Folk Festival, Roots North, Folk Music Ontario, Sofar, and CMC-TV Talent (airing on CityTV September 2024).

 

When Bella abandoned the path of tradition and chose to pursue her dream of having a career as a singer/songwriter right out of high school, the resounding judgement rocked her to, and empowered her to find, her core. That core, as she discovers in her songwriting, is made of poetry, vibrantly painted vocals, and the power to set herself free. 

 

Like her foremothers and musical influences Taylor Swift, Carole King, and Alanis Morisette, Bella bares her soul and wears her feminine heart on her sleeve in her diary-like songs. Having to grow up quickly in emotional intelligence and learn self-care for survival may be the factor behind the adjectives often laid by friends, audience members and strangers at Bella’s feet, like relatable, wise-beyond-her-years and enlightened. 

 

Bella's response to this? “I’m not enlightened, but when I get to write and sing I am definitely lightened. And lighted up from the inside.” Bella uses her powerful voice to create relatable songs that say in their articulate emotional depth: to feel deeply means to truly live, and it heals the heart.
